Independence Day Arts workshops - Tuesday 3rd August & Wednesday 4th August

The ICCA has once again teamed up with Artcore to provide a two day workshop on Tuesday 3rd August and Wednesday 4th August. The workshop will provide an opportunity for our younger members to work with service users of The ICCA daycare on the theme of Independence Day.

The project is called The Monochrome Connections, which will involve the participants creating a collage from black and white photographs, text and magazine cuttings. The collage will incorporate Indian Independence day (which originated sixty three years ago when black and white photographs were common place) and use them to create a collage. They can use motifs and images from their research material. Participants will get a chance to express their ideas and create artwork using acrylic colours, charcoal and images.

Prior to the first workshop, participants will be required to research on Indian Independence and collect relevant photographs, black and white downloads, which can also include text. This will introduce a new medium which will be accessible and manageable for all involved. The final artwork would be Displayed at The ICCA. Des Pardes: The Challenge of the Glocal : Indo-British Exchange Exhibition at The ICCA

After two successful shows in Derby, Artcore and The ICCA are proud to bring the Indo British Exchange Exhibition 2010 to The ICCA. The exhibition 'Des Pardes – The Challenge of the Glocal' brings together around fifty artists interpretation of Globalisation, various artists are from Vadodara, India and also from the East Midlands, UK. Artworks will be displayed in the gallery area.

This exhibition will be inaugurated on Independence Day 15th August 2010. The artists’ works offer a perspective and an interesting take on the theme of the exhibition, namely the phenomenon of globalization that has engaged socio-political thinking and comment over the last many centuries.

Des Pardes is a compound Hindi word of opposite meanings ‘motherland-foreign land’. The word encompasses within itself the idea of conflict that the opposition suggests. Glocal is a popular amalgamation of the words ‘global’ and ‘local’, having almost the same meaning as Des Pardes, but because it has internalized the conflict into a single word, its connotations are much more positive.
